Vintage Recipe--Swedish Meatballs

1 pound hamburger
1 cup soft bread crumbs
1 cup milk
1 egg, well-beaten
2 medium onions, chopped
2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 cup hot water
1 Tbsp flour
2 Tbsp cold water
Hot cooked rice or noodles

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Put first 8 ingredients into a large bowl and mix thoroughly. Form meat mixture in 1 inch balls, using a teaspoon or ice cream scoop. Place meatballs on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until done and no longer pink. Continue until all meatballs are browned.
Add hot water to a skillet; bring to a boil. Blend flour with cold water. Stir into hot mixture; cook until thickened, stirring constantly. Place meatballs in skillet. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Arrange rice or noodles around the edge of a flat serving dish. Pour meat balls and gravy in the center. Makes 6 servings.

Spanish Steak: Pack 1 1/2 pounds seasoned hamburger in greased 8x8 inch pan. Pour 1 cup tomato sauce over it. Top with 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese, 12 stuffed olives, sliced and 6 strips bacon.  Bake in 400 degree oven for 30 minutes.  Makes 6 servings.
