Strawberry Shortcake

Sift together:
2 cups flour;
1/2 tsp salt;
4 tsp baking powder;
pinch cream of tartar. 
Cut in 1/2 cup shortening until the mixture resembles coarse bread crumbs.
Add 2/3 cup milk and stir just until mixed.
Pat dough into an 8 inch round cake pan.

Bake in a 450 degree oven for 15 minutes.  Split shortcake, spread with butter. Fill and also top with sugared berries. Top with whipped cream.
